Busy, Happy Occasions!

So it's been a few days since I've posted, I know. But I've been busy doing lots of stuff that I'm about to share with you. Like...

Planning our annual work event which was a big success if I do say so myself...

Attending a Roaring Out of Her 20s Great Gatsby themed party for my best friend Hillary... Aren't we cute as flapper girls?

Mr. Fo and I make a 1920s pair... might I say that my headband is from Anthro and I want to wear it even when I'm not dressed as a flapper, okay?

I've been writing articles and making recipes... like this Banana Poke Cake...

...and finally, this cute way to serve pasta salad just in time for Memorial Day weekend BBQs!

In other big happenings, my BFF Kalle had her 3rd babe, a beautiful baby boy named Stone Gregory.
We were lucky to hold him at about 10 hours old today...he's precious and Kalle is a champion as per usual.

So as you can see, things have been a little busy around here, but with all great things. Lucky, lucky  me. I found this quote and I simply adore it. This is why I always have a bottle of bubbly in the fridge :)  Hope you have something special to celebrate this week!

Brunch Ideas for Mothers Day!

Happy Friday! If you didn't know, its Mothers Day this Sunday...that's right - you better plan something or buy a card if you haven't already! Or in my case, call my brother to remind him it's Mothers Day. Ha. Cheers to those in the "Older Sister Club!"

One of my favorite ways to celebrate any special occasion is a scrumptious brunch. Morning cocktails, breakfast food and it doesn't typically start until at least 11! Score for sleeping in!

This Mothers Day I will be hosting an early dinner instead of a brunch because I'll be out the night before celebrating my best friends 30th birthday with a Roaring 20s themed bash. You may remember my post highlighting the trends of the 20s HERE. I've got a fantastic Anthro sparkly headband and a dress to boot. Methinks I'll have one too many glasses of champagne to make a brunch for my favorite moms, so I decided to push it to dinner. I'm smart.

For those of you that ARE hosting a brunch and are in need of some last minute inspiration, I've got just the thing :)

Let's start with the most important thing - Food :) For mom you can't just slop some pancakes on her plate, it's all about presentation, which is why I love these mini pancake skewers!

If you're an egg lover like me, you might like this fantastic display of tastiness - A poached egg on top of bruschetta of parma ham and avocado. I  mean could we have more of my favorite things on one plate?

Speaking of eggs, we need some bacon. I like these bacon, egg and toast "cups."

Maybe your mom is more of a waffle fan? Try this beautiful waffle bar to show her you really care.

Now to another important menu item - Cocktails. I like a nice mimosa, and make it creative with a Mimosa Bar like I did for a bridal shower a few years ago. People like choices :)

Or you can try a beautiful pink cocktail on a vintage tray like below.

For decor, think spring flowers and bright colors. Like my moms surprise brunch below...

...or this beautiful citrus inspired centerpiece.

If weather permits, host your brunch outdoors!

Make your moms plate special with a floral place card...

...or a beautiful place setting like this one.

I love this cutesy idea of giving each person a crossword - if you make it a group effort you might actually complete the crossword puzzle!

For more inspiration, check out Joy the Baker's blogs this week as she had a week-long feature on hosting a fabulous Mothers Day, like making this cake:

Whatever you do for your mom this weekend, just make sure you tell her how much you love and appreciate her. That's all she really wants!

Have a great weekend!

Surprise Springtime Birthday Brunch!

For this special week that celebrates Moms everywhere, I thought it fitting to share the Surprise Birthday Brunch I threw for my lovely mother who turned the big 6-0. 60 is the new 30 is what I'm hearing these days :) The brunch was held at Winghaven Gardens, and I highly, highly recommend the venue for small events like birthdays, showers and dinner parties. It was simply divine!

When it comes to surprise parties, the big question is always "Was she surprised?!" Let the picture do the talking...

Ummm ya...she was surprised! That's her cute surprise look on the right :) She totally squealed.

I knew I wanted the party to be bright and colorful and have lots of yellow since it's moms favorite color. As I usually do, I found an invitation I liked and took it from there.

I rented coral polka dot linens and mint green napkins from Party Reflections and bought flowers from the Farmers Market. The striped tulips were simply gorge! I also printed photos of my mom from when she was little and displayed them in colorful frames. Look how cute she is :)

I ordered favor cookies from Sugarbakers and let me tell you - they were stunning and delicious to boot! I would use them again in a heartbeat. I sent them the invitation and they matched the florals exactly!

I also had special wine glasses made for the occasion from my favorite local gift store, Blis. They can personalize anything! Side note, if you're in Charlotte and haven't checked out their newly expanded space, you're missing out!

Now for the main attraction, the yummy brunch menu. I simply told Luke from Dean and Deluca that I wanted quiche and came up with the most perfect menu.

First course for our meander around the gardens was a miniature bacon egg and cheese panini.

We had several varieties of fresh scones at the table, as well as fruit skewers and the main course.

Paired with the Sun Dried Tomato, Goat Cheese and Spinach Quiche was a lemon orzo salad and roasted asparagus. It was perfect!

For dessert we had Dark Chocolate Truffles sprinkled with pink salt. They were fantastic.

Between the food, the gardens and surprising my Mom, it was a perfect day! A special thank to my Aunt and Uncle for visiting and helping with the brunch, and for moms BFF Sharon for getting her there despite her non-cooperative attitude. Ha.

I love you Mom! I hope you all have a wonderful Mothers Day celebrating your mom and treating yourself (if applicable). I plan to spoil my mom just a little more :) She deserves it.

Laurie and Matt's Byrons South End Wedding!

When people find out that I plan weddings, they always ask me "OMG, do you have any crazy bridezilla stories?" In all honesty I've been really lucky with my brides and they've all been sweet, appreciative and fun to work with. In the case of my most recent couple, Laurie and Matt, they were as nice as could be. I love when I know I've done my job but also made friends. That's uber cheesy, but whatevs. It's true.

Let's talk about Laurie and Matt's Bee-Yoo-Tee-Full wedding now, shall we? (All these photos were taken with my iPhone btw.)
Full vendor details at the end of the post!

They got an absolutely stunningly perfect day in North Carolina. It was the kind of day that you wish for when you're a bride-to-be! Byron's South End provided the perfect backdrop to the bride and grooms flawless day!

When guests arrived, they were directed where to go by these fun directional signs from Etsy!

The ceremony was held at the Atrium, which is also part of Byron's South End. There was a beautiful arch made from branches and rustic flowers and the same design was lining the aisle.

After the bride and groom were pronounced man and wife (yay!) the family and wedding party stayed for pictures. Here's the happy group!

LOVE this photo .... and her dress' asymmetrical-ness.

Speaking of her bridal look - how amazing is this brooch bouquet? This brooch was made on Etsy but a few family brooches were incorporated as well. Note - this bouquet was heavy! Laurie was a trooper to carry this all day!

While the wedding party was taking photos, the other guests were enjoying a fantastic cocktail hour in the courtyard. I absolutely loved these dark blue linens on the cocktail table and the unusual flower vessel.

Inside the reception room were beautiful florals, mahogany chivari chairs and ivory linens.

The cake was absolutely gorgeous (and delicious) I might add. Laurie and Matt had a real connection the cake baker - Matt's sister is Haines Barksdale from For Goodness Cakes! For Goodness Cakes makes gorgeous wedding cakes for tons of Charlotte brides and she's super talented (not to mention super sweet as well).

To represent Laurie and Matt's love for chocolate, we had a chocolate bar set up with dark and milk chocolate, white chocolate almond bark, chocolate covered gummy bears and raisins... this was SUCH a hit! I must have refilled the chocolate bar a gazillion times. People went crazy over this chocolate - I loved it!

The guest book was simply a "P" letter that guests could sign to represent the couples new last name. So creative!

The happy bride and groom ran through a sea of glo-sticks at the end of the night!

Then they hopped on the light rail to their happily ever after :)

The second photographer of the night, Tonya with Poprock Photography, who I've known for awhile, sent me this fun picture of the cute cake forks. Maybe it was because I nicely forced her to take a photo of them? Ha.

When I get my hands on the real photos, I'll be sure to do a separate post. In the meantime, I wish Laurie and Matt all the happinness in the world!
